Motherboard Repair
I had stopped repairing PC motherboard since i left my former computer distributor company back in 1994. Those days the famous motherboard board were the 486sx, 486dx and the Pentium. I was provided with every model of the motherboard schematic diagrams, Chipset (all range of IC’s), SMD desoldering tools, troubleshooting notes and even the POST diagnostic card. Repairing PC motherboards on those days were quite easy but i doubt nowadays it will be easy unless you are working in the motherboard manufacturers or you have the sources for all kind information related to motherboard.
Occasionally i do have motherboard sent for repair by my friend who deal with selling computer systems. Most of the time was the electrolytic capacitors bulged and quite simple to fix it. Nowadays PC motherboard is quite cheap and less people want to repair it and prefer to buy a new board unless if the motherboard is in the higher range (branded). As mentioned, if you can’t source for the parts it would be very difficult to repair the board. Those days the boards were only using normal SMD IC’s (spider IC’s) but most of the motherboard now are using the BGA IC’s which is very difficult to extract unless you have the special equipment to do the job.
It will be very time consuming to do this precision job unless the profit that you gonna make could cover your cost otherwise it would not be economical to repair the motherboard. i have a motherboard problem that no one in my city knows to repair. the problem is its processor does not get heated thus my computer do not starts. can any one please help me out, so that i can repair it with a expert technician or if possible by myself. ( motherboard company: Gigabyte 945 GCM series. intel+pentium processor)

Hello jestine. I would like to know just how difficult can it be to replace the BGA bhips like the Southbridge or the Northbridge chips on a motherboard ? How long does it take and what kind of tools do you need ? Secondly and lastly were would someone fine a replacement chips since the motherboards that I have are quite old (Socket 478) Asus P4B533 and P4P800-X. These have the intel chipsets. Please let me know.

i make special electronic board put in slot of motherboard ,connect to oscillator (high speed clock with 70 nsec. period(14.3181MHz,50%duty cycle),using assebly languge,when i am writing اللهinscreen ,you see in OSC.

Hi Justine,
I have a LCD TV, not one those branded ones….it was struck by lightning recently and the motherboard got burnt. The motherboard is Fujitsu brand. It is 42 inch LCD TV. Even though I cannot watch TV, I can still watch DVD. How come I cannot watch TV (like astro) but can watch DVD?
I am from Ipoh. Who can help me solve this problem?

HI Soo,
The TV tuner already been hit and not the av/video. DVD runs on the AV/VIDEO mode. I suggest that you replace the mainboard because if a tv mainboard hit by lightning will cause lots of solid and intermittent problem.

The mainboard of my pc is Silicon4Me.My computer doesnt work
One of my friends who is studying Computer Engineering in University said that the chipset of my Mainboard is out of order.He said that the CPU of Your PC doesnt warm up and does not bring out any heat , so the chipset is out of order.I wanna know, How can I myself , repair or change the Chipset of my mainbord.

HI Ali,
First make sure the power supply is working. As for the chipset it is not easy to find . AND if it is a bga ic then you may need a bga station to remove it out. bga station is very expensive.

HI Vikrn,
It can be the motherboard or power supply. Hardisk would not cause blue screen. I suggest that you send to local computer shop for diagnosis as they have the spare board/power supply to diagnose your problem fast.

If the power is off again then it could be a bad power supply. I suggest that you use another one to compare it.

Hi Shun,
I suggest that you get a pc post card so that the problem will be easy to diagnose. No display can be caused by many section. If you have the card, you will be easy to locate the bad section. Just type in google for “PC POST Card”

Yeah, It's very tough to desolder and solder bga chips like north bridge and south bridge chip with tradition tools. But it's very easy with bga rework station, check it out http://www.dh-bga.com/en

Check the front panel control button. If all ok then the problem could be a corrupted eeprom ic.
