lcd tv cracked

I got another interesting email from a visitor to my website and she emailed me this question:

Can you tell me what could of caused our LCD television to have cracked, it was not dropped or anything it just appeared as we where watching it..thanks

Mrs M.

So far i have not heard of any user of LCD TV screen complaint that  the screen crack by itself while watching the TV. If you have any information about this case i would like to hear from you. Please comment below-thanks!

It may be old but it is true. Impact damage doesn't necessarily result in a crack at the time of the damage. I don't know how many times I have seen a customer drop something and then months down the line the crack appears.

Couldn't the crack have be triggered before purchase then? I have 60" 4K LG TV that has never been bumped and sat in a room we rarely use. The liquid crystal looks cracked with crazy patterns.

I think its called a splorch. Its an internal crack caused when the lcd liquid leaks out, caused by preasure apply to a portion of the screen. This happened to me with a new tv, while transporting in my car a securing it with seatbelts. When I turned tv on it has spider web cracks pn half of screen.

We purchased a TCL 43" Riku TV From Best Buy in November 2018. The cost was $249.99. There was a one-year limited warranty on the TV. We took it home and set it up and we've used it with no issues until tonight. We turned the TV on and there were some colored stripes on it and some thing that looked like a crack And an eyeball on it. There was a voice reading all of the information on the half screen that was working. We called TCL and I spoke to a lady and told her that we had colored stripes on half the TV screen. She asked me if there was something it looked like a crack and an eyeball and I told her yes there was. She said that was an internal crack. She said we needed to contact Best Buy that our limited warranty was up. I called Best Buy and explained what happened to them. Our TV is only 15 months old so three months past a year. He said it sounds like the TV that was sent to Best Buy was a lemon and that it is the manufacturers issue. I called back and spoke to Ace at TCL. He said it was past the warranty and that they weren't going to do anything about it. I explain to him that it is a lemon and the issue is a manufactures defect. He still said it was past the warranty and they would not do anything about it. We never touch the TV as we have a remote. I also explained that to him and he still said that the company will not stand behind their product. since we have been sitting here with the TV off, the screen has dented inward / concave dent.

    Hi,
I have a 32" Bush LED TV, purchased in Dec 2015. When I switched it on this Friday (23/9/16) there was a crack under the glass, with bright lines stretching the height of the screen emanating from what looked like an impact point. My daughter had used it on the Wed (21/9/16) and there was not a problem. I know the TV had not been dropped or struck in anyway. The only way this could have been impacted is if my cats had knocked it over and then replaced it on the TV stand! The retailer is refusing to accept this can happen by itself, hopefully if enough people raise the same issue, manufacturers will accept that something is up.

i purchased a samsung 50' smart tv and when I came home i took it out of the box to make sure it was intact and it was, no worries i assumed.. it was a brand new TV! When I decided to set it upon turning it on and a bright white light like a lighting went stretching almost to the height of the TV screen very similar to what you described. It was really scary but again I trusted the brand and the purchase from sears. When it finished turning on which takes a few seconds there was a black band like going alongside a crack. It has an internal crack without it ever being used, damaged, dropped, banged, hit nothing Same scenario with you it is not covered and the manufacture or the extended warranty I purchased will not cover.

I have a Samsung 55" TV. It developed vertical lines. Technician came out and notice a crack on the lower left hand of the screen. You can't feel the crack only see it, so I think the crack has to be behind the screen. The TV is only two months old. Samsung will not honour their warranty because they are implying we caused the damage. The TV has never been dropped or has any type of impact to it. I think we should all stay away from any Samsung products. They are not of good quality and are a dishonest company.

We the same problem.I have my 49" Samsung TV and it just 10 months old, there is a spot with line on the lower right side with black background already. After the Samsung technician check it out they said it's our fault so they void the warranty. Is it just the samsung just want to avoid there responsibilities so they blame the end user for the crack?

I have the same issue with my 32 inch Samsung. Its in my bedroom so not used much. It is 3 months old. I turned it on last saturday and it looks like a little crack in the corner and a crack running about 4 inches diagonally. Its inside the screen. Now there is sound and no picture. I barely use it! What can cause this?

    Dear all,

    I am facing similar problem with my SONY TV - 43"(Model: KLV-43W752D IN5 bearing Sr.no: 4009268).
Within 10 days of installation LCD panel of my TV developed cracks. SONY is saying same thing, that is - it has happened because of external cause. Beautiful part is that LCD panel in my case is concealed part behind LED Pnal & outer most Glass panel. We can't directly touch & hit the panel that is in broken state now. LED panel & Outer most Glass panel is in perfect shape still. There is no dent, deformity & even scratch on these parts, still SONY is saying that damage is because of external reasons.
I have registered a case against them in consumer court for free replacement.

I was watching TV and the screen cracked. Something not adding up with all these screens cracking. The company answer is something hit it or it was dropped. I'm sorry that a bs excuse. I bet 1000.00 the company don't want to replace something they screwed up somewhere down then line. Wouldn't surprise me if we all hear bout recalls after we spent hard earn money to buy new TVs. So sick of ppl.not taking resposibility of the junk they sell to folks.

Hey me too with same .my sony kdl50w800d purchased october 20016 ,suddenly on this friday showed some vertical coloured lines also some horizontal lines below. I thought it would be repaired as its only 8 months and is under warranty.the engeenier told its a crack inside.and its a physical damage . I cant believe him as no scars or a single scratch can be seen from outside. How without a breakage or scratch outside only the inside developed a crack. I was a die hard fan of sony .but will now never ever buy a product from them .They gave me an estimate of 3200 rs as it is according to them a physical damage .which god knows is not the case. Dissapointed......

I have a 51' 3d samsung. I had it for about 3 years. Placed in one of my children's room whom had another tv that went to my other child. The tv that was in the child's room before nothing happened to it. Now there is a crack screen on the 3d. No signs of him accidentally doing it. It looks like it was cracked from the inside. Since I google is this can happen. I am finding out it actually can. And my warranty is way up on it.

We had it happen to my grandmas 32 inch Hitachi LED TV which was left running overnight - lots of cracks. The service center initially suspected physical damage, but accepted it as a manufacturing defect - probably because the glass outside, plastic etc. were all completely intact.

My grandma initally called a technician from the cable TV company, since the defect wasn't clear at the moment (just sound present, picture not present) - the technician identified it as a manufacturing defect, too.

I had a problem with a 2 month old Dell LCD monitor purchased in March 2017.One moment everything was fine, the next moment when we turned it on, a large screen crack appeared on side of the front panel and when I ran my fingers over the panel, it was smooth from the outside. Definitely something overheated inside and cracked it. I had to ask for many escalations and after 1 week, I got a replacement FOC. Manufacturers need to acknowledge this is really happening - that screens sometimes suffer physical damage but not due to physical impact.

We bought a Hisense 32" TV a year and a half ago. About 2 weeks ago, while watching a movie, the screen went black and horizontal & vertical lines appeared on the TV. As we purchased the TV from Dion Wired at Blue Route Shopping Mall, we contacted them to find out what we need to do. We took the TV to them on June 15th and when they switched the TV on there was suddenly a small crack on the inside visible on the top right side of the screen. They still accepted it and said that they will send it away to see if it can be fixed, etc. Yesterday we received an SMS that we can come and pick up the TV. When we checked the TV it was in a worse state - the whole screen was cracked on the inside. We were told numerous times that this was due to physical damage and that this does not fall under the warranty. We tried to explain that at no time did we damage the TV or the screen but they simply stick to their versus stating that it was caused by physical damage and indicating that this could have been done during the transport of the TV to the shopping mall. They also stated that the black screen with vertical and horizontal lines was caused by a crack in the screen and as they were not there, they can't say how that cracked appeared. They insisted that the only reason is physical damage and that most people with this issue will make a claim with their insurance company.

Does anyone know of any other reason why this could have happened if we were simply watching a movie when this happened? How does this happen? Is this a manufacturer defect and if so, how do we prove it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Riette

I have a Toshiba Regza 32 widescreen television. It is not wall mounted, and I noticed after some years of having it (bought in 2008) both corners of the plastic frame surrounding the screen, had cracked. There is no way it could have been knocked, as it is freestanding on a chest of drawers.

I'm curious to know what the cause could be, and if overheating is the reason, then that is a major concern.

I experience the same issue when I was watching on LG 32 inch LCD Tv i switched off it with the remote and when I on it again there was a big black patch on the screen. Abans Plc, service provider said it was a physical damage and not covered under warranty. Thee was no drop or hit on the screen other than touch on the screen for wipe and only inside the inbetween is we plugged our audio out on the back of the panel.

If we can not do cleaning and plugging the audio out on the TV and it get damage what is the use of a TV

If a new TV sits in a spare room untouched from the day it arrived until the day the image went crazy, they are insane. I didn't even connect any cables, we only ever used the wireless on it. If it can't handle that, it's a lemon.

Vizio 32 inch less than 9 months old.

Splorch. Never traumatized. It has to be a heat issue, or minute manufacturing flaw that heat exploits, or who can say that nothing happened mfg to store or while in the store warehouse.

We have a $250 Westinghouse that has worked flawlessly since 2010, through a change of residence and a dozen living room changes. I think their is a mfg problem in some sets 0r a sporadic shipping issue. Technology today from China is gambling, think about it before spending big bucks.

My 40 Sharp LCD TV just cracked by itself couple of days ago. Luckily, it's an old TV, around 6 to 7 years.

It's just a horizontal like about 4 inches. I can confirmed there is no physical hitting of the TV and it is not a Spider crack.

Weird huh. And the crack seems like growing after a few days and seems thicker. Guess it's time to buy a new TV.

Having similar issue, samsung TV 50" has what appears a single internal crack across the bottom of the screen, no external damage or any sort of marks. Samsung reply is cracks can only be made by external force. Samsung is really low quality and they don't even honor their warranties, I will stay from this brand altogether in the future.

My 60" LG just cracked by itself! Has been wall hung for abt 5 years, and just the external glass cracked. The LCD behind the glass is fine, and tv works fine! Nothing physical "happened" to it. My wife and daughter was in the room, each of them busy with their computers, and suddenly there was a LOUD "three part cracking noise", and a long vertical crack in the front, appeared. Along the crack, there was even a point that looks like it was hit by a rock, which of course, it wasn't! Just below the TV, is my high end stereo. Amplifier, and turntable, each presenting a big area of "surface", with a fine layer of dust. Any flying object would have disturbed the dust, and yet, this dust was undisturbed!
Go figure! Of course, this is annoying, but hey... at least I got 5 good years out of the LG. Had it been a Samsung, it had probably already been scrapped three years ago, just around it's 25'th month birthday!

PS: Future posters ought to state brand, size and "mounting style"!

I feel that this is an important update to my previous comment. The two following nights after the "incident", I have been up working late in the room where the LG hangs, and it just keeps cracking. Pretty loud cracking sounds, and when I walk over there, new cracks has appeared. To bad I can't post pictures. I must admit that am baffled. I work in the electronics industry myself, and I don't like it. My only plausible explanation, is that the mounting bracket is causing this. To bad, as the TV works fine.
BTW: Definitely going to get another LG despite this! TV has performed really well..

I don't understand what "warranty" means? It's been four months and there is supposed to be a one year warranty. My Samsung 43" cost about $330 and the subcontractor techie said that there was "impact damage" and it would cost me $450 to replace the screen. We all have the same story about the impact damage that does not exist. So when a tv fails during the warranty period, we are told that it is not covered? What is? I believe that they use this "warranty" to suck people into purchasing their product under the pretense that if it is defective Samsung will rectify the issue. Wrong! Once they have your money they use every excuse to keep it and there ain't nothing in the world you can do about it.
