Journey to Shenzhen in the beginning was not smooth because I was suppose to meet up Mr Kent at my house around 3.30 pm but somehow his car engine was overheated in the middle of the journey (his house is approximately 200 Km from my house) and he had to get a tow truck to tow it back to his mechanic shop. He did not expect it to happen like this because just one week ago he had sent the car for service! I told Kent that it is the time for him to buy new car-he he! By the time he reached my place was about 7 pm.
After that I called up William (my partner) to meet us at one of the steamboat restaurant in DesaPark city. For your information this was our second time seeing Kent. All of us had a great chat during dinner and after dinner he stayed in my house because we have to push off to Airport in the early morning (about 2.45am the next morning). The journey to the Airport took us about an hour and we had out breakfast in one of the restaurant.
While we were on the plane I took some pictures and videos on Shenzhen just before the plane landed. The journey to Shenzhen from Kuala Lumpur was 3 hours and 45 minutes. The plane landed and there were few Chinese medical officers came up with infrared thermometer and check all of the passenger’s temperature. The reason they did this was to make sure that the passengers do not have any fever otherwise we have to be quarantine since now there are few cases of H1N1 virus in my country.
Now the most worrisome part was that my son failed the test and asked my son to be check again after we disembark from the plane. Next all of the passengers have to be passing through a thermal scanner before we are allowed to pass through the immigration check point. The shocking moment came when one of the officers pointed to Kent and asked him to go into a quarantine room. While another medical officer approached my son and I followed him and he told us to sit outside the quarantine room (Kent already in the room) and took my son temperature again. Thanks God his temperature was 36.5 Celsius which is normal and the officer told us that we can proceed to the immigration counter-what a release whew! I guess my son temperature shot up most probably due to the jacket he wore during the flight and this had caused his temperature to slightly shoot up!
When we were outside with William and his family we were yet received any news about Kent. After few minutes of waiting we decided to ask one of the officer in charge and was told that Kent had a slight fever and need to be sent to hospital for blood test. The officer was very helpful in informing to Kent that we will be waiting for him at the hotel. This whole incident proof that the Chinese authority really taking serious in preventing the virus from spreading to their country. The officers were polite, friendly and well mannered-thumbs up to them!
After check in to the hotel, my family and William family took few hour rests and did not go to any electronic centre. We were too tired of this incident and still worry about Kent status. About 7 pm we went to MiX C shopping complex to have our dinner and do window shopping for a while before going back to the hotel about 9.30 pm. The moment we went inside the hotel (we were staying in holiday Inn Express hotel) guess who we saw? We saw Kent at the receptionist counter and we were so happy to be together again. He told us that the blood test was negative and was allow to be discharged. I told Kent that he have to take a real good rest because tomorrow we have to go to the electronic centre in Hua Qiang Bei. Here are the photos and videos taken during the first day to China Shenzhen. By the way i got tons of email yet to be replied and hope you could bear with me-thanks. Tomorrow I will post part 2 which is about visiting the famous SEG ELECTRONIC MARKET- don’t miss out on this post!

Hi Jestine, So glad I read your blog as I would not have seen about your visit to Shenzhen. I am visiting China soon (18/8/10) and one of our stops will be in Shenzhen for a week. My wife kept asking me what I wanted to do there (she is Chinese) but now I know “visit the Hua Qiang Bei and electronics centres, ha,ha.” Thank you for all your hard work, I have been in electronic design for 40 years but I have learnt a lot about repair work since reading your e-book. As it says somewhere in the Upanishads May Peace and Peace and Peace be Everywhere.

Hope you will have a great time there but i guess one week is not enough to explore the electronics city of Shenzhen. Remember to bring your wife to “DONG Men” for shopping and this is a huge place to shop for ladies garment and etc.
